Former logo

Continuing our Tony Predix, here's

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE

WILL BE NOMINATED:
Jason Robert Brown, 13
Elton John, Billy Elliot: The Musical
Dolly Parton, 9 to 5: The Musical
Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, next to normal

SHOULD BE NOMINATED:
Jason Robert Brown, 13
Dolly Parton, 9 to 5: The Musical
Jeff Bowen, [title of show]
Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire, Shrek The Musical

GOING HOME EMPTY-HANDED:
Neil Bartram, The Story of My Life
Jill Santoriello, A Tale of Two Cities

MODFAB THINKS...it was not a great year for scores. The only true classic is Jeff Bowen's [title of show], but with pop music icons in the mix (Elton, Dolly) and a former Tony winner (Brown) in the mix, I don't see room for him...especially with the surge in support developing around next to normal as the fourth slot.

DARK HORSE: Jeanine Tesori has been nominated for both of her previous Broadway scores (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change)...which shows the committee likes her. It might be enough to snag a nod for Shrek.
