ModMusic Week: Dido

Dido en liveImage via WikipediaIn the last few weeks, the press releases, sample CDs and review copies have piled up all over the ModFab HQ. This week, we're popping them into the iPod, and sharing the best of the best with you...while also giving you a heads-up on those unfortunate ear-scratchers to avoid.

We start the week with London-based singer Dido; you're forgiven if you thought that the ethereal pop chanteuse had fallen completely off the edge of the world. That's because she did, in a way; after her hit albums No Angel and Life For Rent and touring endlessly for about four years, she took a serious step back in 2005. That break, though, will come to an end next month, when she returns from her hiatus with Safe Trip Home, a reviatlizing new disc co-produced by Jon Brion (Rufus Wainwright) and Rollo (Faithless), with contributions from Mick Fleetwood, Brian Eno, Citizen Cope and more.

There are two cool items happening in conjunction with the release of Safe Trip Home. The first is a virtual video gallery at YouTube, with mini-videos of each track on the new album, to give fans a chance to preview the new tracks in a different, experiential way. Excellent use of viral marketing, Dido!

Right now, Dido's planning to unveil the album for a select group of listeners next week. If you're interested in being one of them -- an all-expenses-paid trip to Europe from anywhere in the world, with accomodations and airfare, to meet her and hear the new record -- you can enter the contest here. And don't forget to pre-order.
