Alison Moyet: Giveaway Winners

The response to our Alison Moyet contest was overwhelming...she's got more fans than she even imagines! The winners of the five autographed copies of her new CD, The Turn, are:

Craig M., New York, NY
Amos L., San Francisco, CA
Shannon C., Richmond, VA
DR C., Washington, DC
Clyde S., Astoria, NY

I also took a poll among those entering the competition, asking for their favorite Yaz or Alison Moyet song. The top five were:

5. "Ode To Boy"
4. "Situation"
3. "Only You"
2. "Love Resurrection"
1. "Don't Go"

And briefly, about attending the Yaz reunion concert on Wednesday night here in NYC...it may, simply, be one of the best concerts I've ever had the pleasure to attend. We were lucky enough to be about 15 feet from the band, and seeing their passion and joy up close was marvelous. The real stunner of the night was Moyet; her voice, always a powerful iconic pleasure, has actually improved over the last two decades...it's got a rich, luxurious timbre that sounds just like the brandy she drank throughout the evening from an enormous snifter. Vince Clarke, bless his brilliant genius soul, generally left the arrangements in their original configuration...which sounded phenomenal paired with Moyet's expressive tone.

My favorite live performances were surprises: a buoyant "Sweet Thing," a soaring rendition of "Midnight," and the night's unquestionable high point, a tear-inducing version of "Winter Kills." But mostly, the night was meant for dancing, and Yaz didn't let us down. Here's Alison shaking it up in the encore with "Situation", plus a few other links for the curious...
