Idol, Au Revoir: Michael Johns

The crimes continue on American Idol, with a completely Kristy-free Bottom Three. But it gets even worse, because among Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson, and Michael Johns, it was arguably Tuesday night's best performance that went home. Even if you disagree with that assessment, I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that Johns should have been the next in line to go. I'm a little shocked, but this is one of those Idol surprises that happen when people vote in odd patterns based on factors besides talent. (Like faux patriotism or "faith", and yes, Kristy, I will have your untalented scalp before this whole thing is through.)

Ultimately, what does this mean? It means that Syesha has more fans than we thought...she's fended off sure-thing exits for the last three weeks. It means that Archuleta and Cook are soaking up all the votes for the boys. And it means that, despite its mediocre talent, this season of Idol is one of the most changeable and volatile ever. If nothing else, that's a reason to keep tuning in and giving back.

The Final Sendoff: Michael Johns, "Dream On"
Previous American Idolatry: Yoko Ono, Where Art Thou?, Au Revoir Amanda, God Bless Idol Country, Au Revoir Chikezie, Giving What Back, Exactly?, Idol Gave Back (And I'm Friggin' Exhausted)

I have to say that I have no interest in watching further with Michael gone. I don't believe for a minute that Kristy, Carly or Syesha have more fans than Michael. Something went horribly wrong tonight. You can blame the producers first for putting Michael first on Tuesday night--that's the doom spot. Maybe Michael will get lucky and someone will sign him.

Meh. I knew I shouldn't started watching this show again. America always fucks up.
