Voting For The Environment

With Super Tuesday just days away, it's more important than ever to educate yourself on the issues that matter to you. Thankfully in 2008, the internet is making it pretty easy: Grist has launched a marvelous side-by-side camparison tool of the presidential contenders' policies on environmental issues. And boy, if you weren't a Democrat before, you will be after reading this.

The major differences between Clinton and Obama? Clinton wants higher fuel-economy standards; Obama will spend more developing renewable energy. The difference between Clinton, Obama, and the Repulicans? The Republicans want to deep-fry the planet, then smother it in gasoline and hot sauce.

Yeah, if a Republican (or a Democrat for that matter) is saying they haven't had specifics on an issue, you can bet the farm that they won't be doing a lick of work on that issue while in office. Romney especially is awful on the environment.

And it's issues like these that make me confident that the current Democratic schism will be over once Hillary or Obama wins the nomination. When we start seeing what the Republicans will be doing to the environment, the economy, education, and our reputation abroad, the Dems are going to be getting out and fighting their man/woman.

To be honest there's hardly any difference between their policy here. Speaking from the UK, I'm just happy to see a Democrat president. I liked Bill, and Obama seems to know what he's doing, so they both seem pretty capable.
