The 20 Most Beautiful Songs of the 80's

Via The List Universe. What a great trip down memory lane. I love the choices of The Cure, The Sundays, Dream Academy, Peter Gabriel, Bronski Beat, The Psychedelic Furs...and of course the #1 is an impeccable choice. Not so sure about #2, however.

I'd add Sade's "The Sweetest Taboo," Madonna's "Live To Tell," "Never Tell Us Apart" by INXS, Simply Red's cover of "If You Don't Know Me By Now," and Shakespeare Sister's "Stay," off the top of my head. What would you add to the list?

this list is a little hard to fight with because they are all such great songs.

However..."Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush would have topped my list. It's production (and that killer bridge) still blows my mind.

The Police - Every Breath You Take. Forget the fact that its a song about stalking your ex. That steady beat in the background always make me feel melancholy.

Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen

Take My Breath Away - Berlin
Probably one of the most beautiful songs.

Lay Your Hands on Me - Thompson Twins

Broken Wings - Mr. Mister

Self Control - Laura Branigan

Definitely This Mortal Coil's 'Song To The Siren'. Soo beautiful. Umm.. what else? The Madonna shout is good. I think 'Dear Jessie' is marginally cuter though, or is that venturing into the 90's?

Can I get a witness for Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car"? Devastating, but beautiful.

Honorable mention to "Manchild" by Neneh Cherry. But I like a lot of this list already.

I think #2 should have been #1. I whole heartedly agree with the addition of any Sade song.

Captain of Her Heart was a good one, too.

easily the most beautiful song of the 80s is the theme to The Mission, Ennio Morricone's moving "Gabriel's Oboe" being the primary piece. give it a listen.
