Grammy Nominations Practically Drowning In Cocaine...

...or they will be, what with Amy Winehouse leading the nomination pack. (She actually tied with Kanye West, but his new album bores me to tears, and I'm a fan.) Here's all the Grammy Goodness...and my Top Ten favorite things scattered in amongst the nominations:

10. Producer of the Year: Mark Ronson
If anyone can take down Timbaland, it's Ronson. In addition to making magic with Winehouse, his own record rocked hard, too.

9. The Soundtrack Album category
With Across The Universe, Dreamgirls, Hairspray and Once among the nominees, this is arguably the strongest category of the year.

8. Spring Awakening vs. Company: The Rematch
Two extraordinary Broadway cast albums -- Awakening redefining the genre, Company's record actually improving upon the live experience -- vie for the title of best in show.

7. Best Rap Album
Although Kanye will steal the thunder, the real magic is on Common's phenomenal CD Finding Forever. Perhaps their collaboration "Southside" will win the Rap Performance by a Duo category.

6. All Hail Ledisi!
Her nominations for R&B album and Best New Artist are both surprising and well-deserved.

5. Female R&B Vocal Performance
Any time you've got this five-way battle, you better sit up and take notice: Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, Alicia Keys, Chrisette Michele and Jill Scott. I expect Keys to take it, but watch out for Blige.

4. The relative insignificance of Mika
Only a Dance Recording nomination, for "Love Today." That'll teach him to pretend he's bisexual and ambiguous!

3. Beaucoup de Winehouse
I know she's a hot cracked-out mess, but I still adore her. Maybe her six (6!) nominations will shock her back into reality.

2. Rare remembrances
Single nominations for good songs: Beyonce's "Irreplaceable," Christina Aguilera's "Candyman," and Corinne Bailey Rae's "Like A Star." All good pickups by the Grammy nominators, worthy of a single mention (and not much more).

1. The beating that Plain White T's are gonna get...
in the Pop Group Performance category. U2, Daughtry, Maroon 5, Bon Jovi...I hope they make a circle around that Delilah chick's boyfriend and beat him into a bloody pustule. (Yeah, I hate that song.)

The Amy Winehouse love is great to see. Her album is the best I've heard in ages. Although, I can just imagine someone telling her she's got six Grammy nominations and her responding "So what?". Someone needs to take her in hand.

Oh. Also. I'm not a massive fan of Mika, but his new song 'Relax' is fantastic.

Pardon my ignorance, but when did Mika pretend to be bisexual? All I remember from my (limited) reading on the matter was that he refused to discuss his "personal" life -- different from trying to deceive.

Small correction: I just read that Kanye actually got eight nominations to Amy's six.

I disagree, Will. I think there's a lot of deceit in Mika's public persona. He has aggressively courted the gay community to buy his record, but refuses to be open about the one fact that the community defines themselves by. If he's straight, say so. If he's bi, say that. But if he's gay, he should be honest...especially if he wants gay people to feel a kinship with him strong enough to transform into album sales.

I'd be fine with his "refusal" to answer if hadn't worked so hard to put gay issues into his marketing campaign (the cover of OUT, for instance). But to me, you can't have it both ways.
