Oscarology: The (Foreign) Film Experience

Nathaniel at The Film Experience is cranking up the Oscar coverage (yes, it's that time) by posting the complete list of eligible foreign films for this year's Academy Awards. Not just a list, either; each of the 61 films has background info and a summary of its chances for a nomination. Want to impress your office mates on nomination day? This is how you do it.

Perusing the list, we think the six best shots are Indigenes (Algeria), Water (Canada), Curse of the Golden Flower (China...Gong Li reunites with Zhang Yimou!), The Lives of Others (Germany), Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico), and Volver (Spain). Of course, virtually no one in America has seen these yet (although four of these will receive substantial Oscar campaigns from their U.S. distributors). So we recommend you keep visiting The Film Experience right up until the Oscars, and beyond. It's really one of the internet's great resources for movie lovers.
