Oscarology: The Brit Indie Film Nominations
Perhaps the first film awards of 2006 (trust me, they won't be the last), the British Independent Film Awards are hardly notable otherwise. But there is a major surprise, for what it's worth: the relatively poor showing of The History Boys, which failed to receive a Best Film nomination even though it may be the ultimate definition of a British independent film. The other major Oscar contenders from the U.K. -- including The Queen, The Last King of Scotland, Venus, and The Wind That Shakes The Barley -- all did very well. [Cinematical]
