ModMusic: 49'ers vs. M People

Maybe it's all the retro vibes playing on the ModFab HQ Jukebox these days -- Scissor Sisters, Christina Aguilera, etc. -- but we're in the mood for old-school dance music. Two samples for your delight today: the first is an Italo-House workout called "Got 2 Be Free", by The 49'ers, who were briefly popular in the gay clubs in the early 90's. The second is a fierce remake of The Small Faces' "Itchycoo Park" by M People. Never truly released in the U.S., the single tore up the clubs for a month or two back in 1994, just as the group (best known for "Movin' On Up") were fading into obscurity. (Their brilliant lead singer, Heather Small, has a new CD, though.) Turn up the stereo, take it to the bridge, and twirl, girl, twirl.
