Cannes Film Festival Begins

With The Da Vinci Code making its world premiere tonight, the galaxy's most important film festival begins its two week run...one of the few truly global events each year. We're intrigued to see Cinematical's promised coverage of the fest (go blog coverage!), and of course to see the red carpet arrivals on IFC. Slated to be big dogs in the competition: Pedro Almodovar's Volver, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, Alejandro González Inárritu's Babel, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales, Aki Kaurismaki's Laitakaupungin Valot, Ken Loach's The Wind That Shakes The Barley, and Nanni Moretti's Il Caimano. Completely sight unseen (and buzz free), I'm guessing that Loach is due and Moretti will be well liked. Oh, and the Southland Tales website above ROCKS.
