ModMusic: Corinne Bailey Rae

This edition of ModMusic goes out to my R&B sisters Nick, Damion, Nat, Rod, Maw, and all the ModFabbers who love sweet soul music.

Remember this name: Corinne Bailey Rae. Got it? Good. Because when her CD drops on June 20th in the U.S., it will be the only CD you'll play all summer. Get it now, then tell everyone that you discovered her...you'll be the coolest kid on the block by July.

Already available in Europe and the UK (where her self-titled disc debuted at #1), Rae is a gorgeous young prodigy from Leeds (that's Britain, kids) with a sound that effortlessly mixes Erykah Badu-ish vocals with Jill Scott's smarts and Maxwell's vibe. It is one of those rare experiences where every track is a laid-back pleasure, perfect for relaxing by the pool, dancing at the barbecue, or walking through the park with the iPod.

Sample for yourself: the first single, "Like A Star", is already making the rounds on VH1 Soul (video here), an exquisitely fragile wisp of song. The album is better represented, however, by "Put Your Records On" (video here), an midtempo mover that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Corinne's MySpace page has both songs available in audio, and AllTunes offers the album now for download (at a price that truly astounds).

Just trust me. This is THE record of the year so far.

Watch: "Put Your Records On", "Like A Star"
Listen: MySpace
Download: "Call Me When You Get This"
Then Purchase: Corinne Bailey Rae (Amazon)(AllTunes)
