Kevin Federline Blinded Me With Science

In a lovely bit of postmodern irony, Kevin Federline has found himself on the wrong end of a lawsuit by my favorite 80's one-hit wonder, Thomas Dolby. K-Fed's upcoming single, "America's Most Hated," samples Mobb Deep's "Got It Twisted" which sampled Dolby's classic tune "She Blinded Me With Science." And because he thinks he is entitled to the entire universe, Federline never paid the artists for the privilege:
"You can't just take a very well-known piece of music and add your own vitriolic rap over the top of it and get away with it," Dolby told MTV News on Wednesday. "If anybody's going to sing nasty lyrics over my music, it's going to be me."
We love Dolby, and always have. Like, no kidding: we own copies of all of his albums, and think Aliens Ate My Buick is one of the most underrated (and unfortunately titled) recordings of the 1990's. But we love him even more for this:
It's like what Vanilla Ice did with 'Ice Ice Baby' [illegally sampling Queen and David Bowie's 'Under Pressure'], although I think Vanilla Ice is a superstar compared to this guy."
Our thoughts exactly. Hopefully, we'll get to share our mutual disgust at Dolby's upcoming concert appearances at Joe's Pub next month.
