Brokeback Mountain: Get Rich or Die Homoerotically

A few days ago, Defamer reported on a Massachussetts prison that disciplined one of its officers for screening Brokeback Mountain for its inmates:
Massachusetts Department of Correction spokeswoman Diane Wiffin said the officer, whose name was not released, had not followed standard procedure for screening the movie for excessive violence, assaults on correctional staff, nudity or explicit sexual content. "I want to make it clear, it wasn't the subject matter -- it was the graphic nature of the sexually explicit scenes," Wiffin said Monday.
So what movies did make the cut? Family fare mainly...like A History of Violence and Get Rich or Die Tryin'. The former, of course, features numerous bloody killings and brutal heterosex on a staircase, while the latter was riddled with cop-killing violence and, as FourFour points out today, isn't shy about the man-on-man nudity either.

Will Brokeback always be a cultural touchstone...one shunned by homophobes with an agenda? My guess is yes, sadly. Sigh...it's enough to make you want to write a totally gratuitous Jake Gyllenhaal post.
