This Week In Modern Fabulousity - Monday, March 13, 2006

SHOPPING: Housing Works, arguably the greatest secondhand/vintage experience since the invention of the garage sale, launches Spring Preview Week with a different sale, every day, at a different location around NYC. Their ad is true: with a few bucks and a little patience, you can find a "vintage YSL suit, an Oscar de La Renta dress, an 1960s original Eames chair, a Steuben vase, or a Marc Jacobs cashmere sweater." I'm all over it like gravy on potatoes.

MOVIES: After slogging through the last few months of movies that are so blandly safe that one eyes grow heavy with dullity, ModFab complements the team behind the new imaginative thriller V For Vendetta. Not because we think it's good...the verdict's still out on that. But that the filmmakers (mostly from the stable of The Matrix) are really putting it out there in grand style. It's either going to be terrible or brilliant...and after cringing through Failure To Launch, we'll gladly take either.

TELEVISION: I'm not saying it's good. Or even watchable. But for sheer kitsch, there's no greater celebrity clusterfuck than The Surreal Life, VH1's annual circular firing squad of forgotten C-listers. Only you can decide if you want to watch The Jeffersons' Sherman Hemsley, Whitesnake video vixen Tawny Kitaen, tranny actor/ess Alexis Arquette, and Wesson Oil goddess Florence Henderson live, drink, and fight together in a beach house. Yeah, me too. (The "mystery hunk" who will join them in the house is a former ModFab Friday Hot Guy. Excellent!)
