Julianne Moore on Broadway

Yes, I said it. Julianne Moore on Broadway. Four words which will no doubt send her movie love slaves, Nathaniel and Nick into orgasmic spasms.

Following fellow Hollywood royalty Julia Roberts, Ralph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo and Denzel Washington onto New York stages, Ms. Moore will appear in The Vertical Hour, a new play by David Hare, to be directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (Cabaret, Jarhead). It will open during Thanksgiving week at a Shubert house to be named.

The starry news about Julianne Moore was coupled with equally fizzy buzz that Hugh Jackman will be returning to Broadway in...something. He's got competing offers to star in revivals of Pal Joey and Stop The World, I Want To Get Off. ModFab is placing bets on Joey...not only is it the better work, but it's got a crackerjack creative team behind it, including producer Marc Platt and director Joe Mantello (Wicked), adaptor Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out), and choreographer Matthew Bourne (Swan Lake). If they can get contracts signed, expect it spring 2007.
