Follow the 250,000 Bouncing Balls

It's rare when a television ad approaches the power of abstract cinema, but Sony's "Color Like No Other" campaign comes very close...thousands of bouncing color balls making their way through the streets of San Francisco:
In an age when CGI is commonplace, the commercial [is] all the more extraordinary. Every single frame was shot over two days - with the main sequence involving a 23-man camera crew and only one chance to get it right. An entire block was closed off and special compressed-air cannons shot the balls into the air, while earth moving equipment poured thousands down the street.
Watch the film here; it's even got an accompanying making-of featurette. (Warning...the making-of does pump the greatness of Sony rather mercilessly.) It's quietly amazing technically and oddly uplifting...the kind of thing that might happen if Matthew Barney were taking happy pills. [Bibi's Box]
