The ModFab Gallery: Rare Birds Edition
Our first ModFab Gallery of 2006, and it's a doozy...the photos included this week are superb. This is really two weeks' worth of entrants (after the best-of-2005 last week), so I hope you'll indulge me and spend an extra minute or two.

Mark Wickens of Rare Birds strikes me as a photographer interested in perspective -- not the technical term per se, but in the esoteric process of translating a personal viewpoint into subtle commentary buried in art. Photos of nature, of architecture, of people or animals...every one of Wickens' shots not only captures the subject, but quietly comments on that subject's behavior, whether a desolate building or a curious man amorously puckering into a camera. Rare Birds, more than anything, exhibits a striking sense of what makes the world go round.
