The New Anti-Drudge: Sploid
Gawker Media, the ever-expanding blog empire of Nick Denton, has launched Sploid, its new sassy, trashy tabloid. As Boi From Troi and Buzzmachine relate, Sploid (sounds like void, tabloid, and hemmoroid) is a bid by Denton to compete with the internet's king of trash, The Drudge Report, which is a shining beacon of inaccuracy and sensationalism. Mix this with Arianna Huffington's new site, and there's a veritable logjam of not-really-news on the world wide web. To which I say...Yay! More ways to waste time when I should be working!
My initial reaction: Sploid is fun but hard on the eyeballs (how about toning those headlines down a bit, gang?), and despite the editorial presence of the marvy Choire Sicha, it's still got a ways to go before it finds its own voice. Still, I'd rather do anything than read Drudge, so my bookmark is now set.
